The Ingimund Project in Meols Park

Please Donate to the Ingimund Statue Project ....

Norseman Ingimund represents Wirral's very own ancient Viking Saga when he led settlers in 902AD to Meols, being the the old Viking sea-port Melr... To celebrate the arrival to our shores of the 114ft Draken Harald Hårfagrea, a replica Viking Longship in Summer 2013 on it's maiden voyage following the path of the Vikings from Scandinavia via the Wirral to Istanbul, we propose to commision a Statue of Ingimund in Meols Park, as a lasting memory of the occasion and our heritage... Organisers have agreed Wirral will be one of the first stops because of its strong Viking links, evidenced by place names and a genetic survey which showed a Norwegian influence in the DNA of the borough’s oldest families. Scientists found two men from Meols who shared identical historical links to Scandinavia during DNA testing. The Ingimund statue will follow a basic plan of a Viking on a ship like the one on featured here, of King Sverre in Trondheim, Norway.
